Aim… Fire! Sixth Graders Explore Simple Machines and Their Complex Uses!

Our sixth graders had a blast exploring simple and complex machines this week! They built catapults from popsicle sticks and worked in groups to create vibrant posters on levers, wheels and axles, inclined planes, pulleys, and wedges, showcasing how these machines have evolved.

Did you know pirates used catapults in the 17th century and by medieval knights to breach castle walls? These ancient tools are still impressive—especially when aiming a cotton ball!

The students predicted where their cotton balls would land, mixing creativity with hands-on learning. It was a fun-filled day of discovery and teamwork!
