This week, we wrapped up our unit on the five senses by learning all about the sense of taste and the amazing organ that makes it possible: the tongue!
The children were very excited for this activity, and it definitely did not disappoint! We explored four different flavors: sweet, sour, bitter, and salty. Using their tongues, the children had the opportunity to taste a small sample of each flavor and describe how it made them feel. The reactions were priceless: from giggles during the sour taste to big smiles for the sweet treats!
After trying them all, each child picked their favorite flavor. It was so interesting to see how unique each preference was. Some loved the tangy taste of lemon, others enjoyed the classic sweetness of chocolate, while a few even preferred the salty or bitter samples!
This hands-on experience was a fun and meaningful way to help the children understand how the tongue works and how it helps us enjoy the world around us. We are so proud of how curious, brave, and open they were during this activity!
