In 8th grade, we expect from students to increase their interest in knowing more about world geography and mostly about the Western Hemisphere. In this course we will study the different regions of the world making emphasis on North America,Central America, South America, and the Caribbean.  We will virtually travel together to different parts of the world. For each region, the class will examine the physical environment, the culture and people of the regions, the economic activities of the regions, and the most important political issues associated with those regions. Also, we will understand the cultural, social, and historic factors that influenced the creation of Latin American cultural diversity. This course will also examine how the environments, economies and peoples of the world are dependent on each other for better or for worse. Also, we expect that students apply what they learn to their daily lives, learn from mistakes and achievements of other cultures, and compare and contrast what happened in history with today´s current events. Current events are integrated into the curriculum so that students can analyze, compare and contrast different events. During this school year, we will work on improving their writing, speaking, and organizational skills.
